Futures Team Meets with District Congregations

The Futures Team has begun a series of meetings in congregations as part of the inquiry phase of its work on a new 5-year strategic plan for the St. Lawrence District.

As they prepare to develop a framework for the district's future work, members of the team are building on the district's previous plan, considering new challenges and emerging needs, and consulting resources within and outside the district. In their meetings with congregations, members will look for specific information about topics of interest and preferred projects in addition to more general thoughts about vision for the congregation and Unitarian Universalism.

Members of the Futures Team are:

• Dave Munro, Chair (Past President, First UU Society of Albany),

• Jeanne Crane, Team Consultant (District Planning Consultant),

• Jan Gartner (Director of Religious Education, First Universalist Church of Rochester),

• Bill Parke (District Trustee),

• Rev. Deane Perkins (UU Congregation of Glens Falls);

• Also, David Friedman (UUA Trustee) and Karen LoBracco (District Program Consultant) are ex officio members. District members Karen West and Terri Divens-Bruffey are assisting the team with congregational visits.

Outreach to Congregations

Members of the Futures Team are visiting congregations throughout the District to discuss where each congregation is today, its vision for itself and UUism, and how the district can better connect with it. They will be collecting input on such questions as:

1.  What visions do you hold for your congregation and for Unitarian Universalism?

2.  How can the St. Lawrence District help you grow spiritually and in your connections with other congregations and the larger faith?

3.  If your congregation had the resources to spend, what one project would you try to accomplish?

4.  What specific topics are of interest to you: right relations, conflict management, multiculturalism, worship and music, multi-generational connections, family ministry, and/or GLBT concerns?
